A Bohemian Paradise Hidden by Jagged Cliffs
We are heading to the very heart of a rare geological formation, a massive canyon carved vertically into the foothills of Mount Babadağ. Surrounded by sheer rock walls reaching nearly 350 meters, Butterfly Valley is a fairytale-like, secret sanctuary completely isolated from the outside world. It takes its name from the dozens of species—most notably the endemic Jersey Tiger moth—that it hosts during the spring months. It offers more than just turquoise waters; with its non-commercial, nature-oriented bohemian lifestyle, it is the ultimate symbol of freedom in Fethiye.
Location & Transport Tips

Access: There is absolutely no road access for vehicles down to the shore of Butterfly Valley. The primary and safest way to reach the valley is by sea.

Sea Transport (Boat & Shuttle): This is the most iconic stop for daily boat tours departing from Ölüdeniz Belcekız Beach. If you wish to stay longer or camp in the valley, you can use the official "Butterfly Valley Shuttle" (zodiac/boat) services that depart from Belcekız Beach several times a day and return whenever you wish.
The Upper Viewpoint (Faralya): You can reach the cliff edge right above the valley (the observation terrace) by taking the Faralya minibuses (dolmuş) from Fethiye center. This is the famous photography spot where you can see the valley spread out beneath your feet.
(Vital Warning: The old trail leading down from the cliff to the beach is strictly prohibited by official decree due to high risks of fatal accidents. You must use the sea route to reach the shore).
Facilities, Life in the Valley & Sea Character
As a first-degree natural protected area, Butterfly Valley is completely shielded from concrete construction. All structures within are built in harmony using wood and stone.

Entry Rules: When you step into the valley, a reasonable entry/environmental protection fee is collected by the valley management to ensure cleaning, environmental protection, and sustainability.

Accommodation & Camping: You won't find luxury hotels here. Instead, there are wooden bungalows nestled in nature, glamping tents, or campsites where you can pitch your own tent. When the last boat leaves in the evening and the valley is left to the campers, the density of the stars in the sky and the silence of the canyon are mesmerizing.

The Character of the Sea: The water faces the open sea. It is incredibly clean, glass-clear, and cool. The shore and seabed consist of large pebbles, so water shoes will significantly increase your comfort. The water deepens suddenly just a few meters from the shore.

Valley Hike & Waterfall: By following the path that leads from the back of the beach into the canyon, you can reach a small, hidden waterfall pouring from the heart of the mountains in about 15–20 minutes. If you look closely at the trees during your walk, you might spot various butterfly species.

If you wish to take that iconic photo from the Faralya viewpoint, please do not step too close to the edge; the rocks here can be structurally slippery. Once you are inside the valley, please avoid shouting to ensure you do not startle the butterflies, and take great care to leave absolutely no trash behind, honoring the preservation of this ancient ecosystem.
